Welcome to Enable (UK) the web accessibility specialists.
An accessible web site is one that will reach more of your potential customers, whatever their circumstances or ability. There are many benefits for both you and your customers if your web site is designed to be equally accessible:
You will be able to reach new markets and audiences for the first time:
Your web site will have simple and consistent navigation, device independence and clear, understandable content - which will benefit all users.
You will reduce project costs due to improved efficiency, such as reduced site maintenance and easier repurposing of content (the web content will transfer more easily to other platforms such as interactive TV).
Under the terms of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (DDA) UK service providers must make 'reasonable adjustments' to their services - including web sites - to make them accessible: otherwise they could be found to be unlawful. The Special Educational Needs and Disability Act (SENDA) applies this principle to educational institutions, who should make adjustments by 1 September 2002.
